Accepting your offer

I need help understanding my ANU offer. Who can I contact?

We understand that you may need help in understanding your offer. Please contact the International Admissions team via email and they will be able to answer your questions. For students under 18 years old at the time of commencement, your parent/guardian needs to complete the International Student Under 18 Agreement.

I haven’t received my ANU student identification number and password.

You’ll receive an email containing your ANU student identification number and password around two months prior to the commencement of the semester. The email will also share details on how to enrol in your classes.

Once you have accepted your offer, you need to pay the deposit mentioned in your offer letter. Please make sure to include your ANU Student ID so that we can identify the transaction.

Can I defer my offer?

As an international student, you cannot defer your offer to study at ANU. If you receive an offer to study at ANU but are unable to take up your place, we encourage you to change your intake when the next available change of preference  window opens.

How does my sponsor pay my fees?

If you told us about your sponsor in your application, and you have followed the information on the partnerships, sponsorships and scholarships web page, you will not need to do anything else right now.

If you have not told us that you have a sponsor, then you need to follow the instructions on the sponsors web page about paying your fees.

What will life on the ANU campus be like?

One of the best things about studying at ANU is the campus experience.

At its heart is the Kambri cultural precinct and ANU residential community. Abuzz with cafes, bars, shops, gyms and an amphitheatre, Kambri is the hub for all things campus life. Walk, ride or drive there. It’s where you’ll meet friends between classes or study while catching some sun. 

Our state-of-the-art educational facilities include modern laboratories, lecture theatres, five libraries, information and communications resources, and quiet and communal study spaces. Along Kambri’s tree-lined avenues and in Student Central are plenty of spots with charging docks or take your laptop and sit on one of the beanbags on the lawn by Sullivan’s Creek, with a view of Black Mountain.

Will I be able to work part-time in Australia?

Canberra has the highest employment rate in Australiathe country. As a student, you’ll be able to work 40 hours a fortnight during the semester and more during your study breaks.

Make sure you check your visa’s paid work allowances before you undertake any work.

Should I organise my accommodation now?

ANU offers a broad range of accommodation choices for students, within a diverse and vibrant community. We have plenty of catered and non-catered rooms and studios on campus to suit all budgets.

If you will be studying online initially, there is no need to organise your accommodation just yet.

What’s it like to live on campus?

Our residential community is diverse, made up of students of all backgrounds, personalities, orientations and interests. Your student residence on campus will be close to your classes, libraries, shops, cafes and gyms, as well as the CBD.   The wide range of social activities will help you settle in.

Visa, passport and health insurance

Learn why you will still need a visa and mandatory Overseas Student Health Cover even if studying online – and how this period will count towards an Australian post-study work visa.

What Australian student visa will I need to apply for?

As an ANU student you must ensure you hold a current visa which entitles you to study for the duration of your program in Australia. Typically this is a subclass 500 student visa.

You should apply for a student visa as soon as you receive your electronic confirmation of enrolment (eCoE).

All visas are subject to conditions and you must ensure that you comply with the conditions of your visa at all times.

You must also have a valid passport for the duration of your studies.

Will I need an Australian student visa for the period I am studying offshore?

Even if you will be studying remotely online for a while, you must hold a current visa that entitles you to study in Australia for the duration of your program. Typically, this will be a subclass 500 student visa.

You must also have a valid passport for the duration of your studies. Having a valid visa and passport will ensure that you will be ready to travel when you are able to. They will also ensure your online study period counts towards the Australian study requirement for the Temporary Graduate post study work visa, which you can apply for when you are about to graduate from ANU.

Will I need to have Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) while I am studying remotely?

Overseas Student Health Cover is a mandatory requirement of your student visa (unless your home country has a Reciprocal Health Care Agreement with Australia).

This means that you will need to organise this health insurance even if you will be studying remotely. Your cover will only start, though, when you arrive in the country.

During your time here, your OSHC will cover visits to the doctor, some hospital treatment, ambulance cover and the cost of some pharmaceuticals (medicines).
