Information to help you make your way through the application form and apply on time.

Has COVID-19 changed how ANU will assess my application?

Yes. Due to COVID-19, ANU is now making offers based on your Year 11 results and will honour these for study in 2021, as long as you complete Year 12.

Who can help me with technical difficulties?

If you experience any technical difficulties while filling out your ANU application, contact our Future Students team for help.

What happens after I submit my application?

On 10 August, ANU will send you an email letting you know the outcome of your application. If it has been successful, the email will include an offer that covers admission, campus accommodation and scholarships for study in 2021. All you need to do is complete Year 12!

If I apply directly to ANU, will I also need to give a preference to ANU through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC)?

No, that’s what great about applying directly to ANU! You won’t need to apply to ANU again through UAC.

The co-curricular requirement

Learn more about the co-curricular requirement, including the types of activities that can help you meet it.

What is the co-curricular requirement?

In your application, you will need to meet both academic requirements and a co-curricular requirement.

We understand that COVID-19 may impact your ability to meet the co-curricular requirement, so have adjusted this commitment. We do not expect or encourage you to do any activities that contravene social distancing or the Australian Government’s health advice.

In your application, let us know about the Year 10, 11 or 12 activities you are most proud of. These can range from school competitions, paid or unpaid work experience and volunteering to creative art, performance, sports and games (which can include online gaming activities).

We won't use your co-curricular activities to rank you against other applicants.

How do I demonstrate that I’ve met the co-curricular requirement?

You need to meet both academic requirements and a co-curricular requirement.

To meet the co-curricular requirement in your application, you’ll need to let us know about the Year 10, 11 or 12 activities you are most proud of (the maximum is five activities). These can range from school competitions, paid or unpaid work experience and volunteering to creative art, performance, sports and games (which can include online gaming activities).

Your co-curricular activities will not be used to rank you against other applicants. You will need to provide supporting documentation for each activity listed in your application to demonstrate you’ve met our co-curricular requirement.

Your supporting evidence needs to:
• identify you (the applicant, by full name) as having participated in the co-curricular or service activity
• name the activity you were involved in
• mention the dates you did the activity
• state if you’ve met the commitment requirements in the ANU co-curricular or service schedule.

We have a template to help you with your documentation.

Can my co-curricular activities count towards my ATAR or selection rank?

No. Unlike adjustment factors, your co-curricular activities cannot modify your ATAR or selection rank. They are simply a requirement of your ANU application that tells us you have the life skills to succeed at ANU.

Special considerations

Learn how adjustment factors can affect your selection rank.

What are adjustment factors?

Adjustment factors are extra points that, when added to your ATAR, will boost your selection rank (the score you need to get into your degree). The maximum adjustments you can ask for is 15. This number can be made up of:

• 10 equity adjustments
• 5 Elite Athlete adjustments
• 5 subject or performance adjustments (AMEB Grade 8).

Calculate your adjustment factors

How do I apply for adjustment factors?

You can apply for adjustment factors in your ANU application. You can also apply for new adjustment factors at any time, by logging back into your application. Also, if you don’t have the documents you’ll need to support your adjustment factors now you can upload them later.

Once you’re logged into your ANU application, you can apply for adjustment factors by:

1. Clicking 'Adjustment factors'
2. Reading the criteria of each adjustment factor category and answering the relevant questions to find out if you’re eligible
3. If you are eligible, downloading a cover letter with information on the type of documentation you'll need
4. Uploading these documents along with the cover letter by 25 May 2020.

ANU scholarships

How do I apply for scholarships?

Applying for a scholarship through the direct application process couldn’t be simpler. On your application form, you can choose for us to assess you for all ‘Scholarships with automatic consideration’, in which case you won’t need to provide any further information, or ‘All eligible scholarships’.

If you choose ‘All eligible scholarships’, you will need to answer these four short questions:

  1. Why do you want study at ANU?
  2. Why would you like to study the selected discipline/s and program/s?
  3. How will your selected program/s help you meet your career aspirations?
  4. What does a scholarship mean to you?

You will also need to provide the contact details of at least one referee.

Note: If you apply to ANU through UAC later in the year, you will have to apply for any automatically assessed scholarships separately.
